Oh, how I love family recipes. My lovely Midwestern family has some pretty good ones. Taco Pie is one of my absolute favorites and it’s anything but fancy. But, that’s what makes it so spectacular, right?
This recipe has just a few ingredients and is seriously so easy. It might be the first thing I learned how to cook. I might just be telling myself that, but whatever. Make sure you preheat your oven and put your crescent rolls in your pie pan before you start cooking your ground beef. Also, only use Pillsbury crescent rolls because they are the best. I’ve tried off-brand and they aren’t nearly as good. Okay, so we did class it up a little bit with our favorite spice company, Penzey’s. There is nothing better than their Fajita Seasoning when whipping up anything Taco Pie related. Plus, they always have some pretty awesome sales going on so be sure to sign up for their email list. If you don’t have a pie pan handy, you can use a cake pan instead. Just make sure to properly line any pan with a layer of crescent rolls. Then, you just layer ground beef, cheese, sour cream, and Doritos (yes, Doritos)! Make sure the Doritos are the top layer so they get nice and crunchy. I like to use the Cool Ranch flavor but other family members like to use Nacho Cheese. The Beard prefers the latter and doesn’t like sour cream so we left it out of the Taco Pie this time around. He’s pickier than you expect. Well, I like sour cream so I put a little dollop on top with some pickled jalapenos. Every time we make this dish, it makes me feel oh so comforted and nostalgic. Now that we have a peanut of our own, this dish makes an appearance fairly often at our home. What kind of Doritos are you going to put on your Taco Pie? Share in the comments!
