As parents of an almost two year old, sometimes we need a little break from our sweet (crazy) child. Luckily, we had the wonderful opportunity to get a night off at the Renaissance Hotel in Westerville at 409 Altair Pkwy right off Polaris Parkway. Their wonderful team at Marriott and Inspire PR Group provided our accommodations for the staycation but all thoughts and opinions are purely our own.
Their theme is “summer lake house” and it is wonderfully obvious throughout the hotel. The lobby area is huge and extends into the bar and their restaurant, the Two-One. They also have all the wonderful amenities of most Marriott hotels like a beautiful work out facility and heated pool. There is also a really beautiful outdoor space with a walking path, hammocks, and games like cornhole and giant Jenga!
The day we enjoyed our staycation it was torrentially down-pouring and I had to drop O off to my dad in downtown Columbus. OOF. Once I finally made it back to Westerville, I was in some serious need of pampering. We promptly enjoyed dinner at the Two-One, their in house restaurant which I share more about in this post. Their restaurant and bar is so awesome, so it deserved it’s own blog post.
Since this was a staycation and all, we had to order room service. Plus, The Beard had been on a photography excursion so he missed dinner and was starving. Their menu is pretty delicious but you definitely get more options down in the Two One compared to having it delivered to your room.
I did get a burger that also had short ribs on it, so really who am I to complain? And yes, I did eat more food in our room after I had dinner downstairs. I was on a staycation, okay? Don’t judge. Plus, the gentleman who was serving us at dinner ALSO served me room service so that’s not embarrassing.
Also, we noticed this at our last trip to Butler County, but you can now login to your personal Netflix or Hulu account in your hotel room. I just think this is awesome because usually there is nothing good on regular ol’ cable.
Not going to lie, I didn’t know you could order cocktails to your room so BRB while I do that every time I travel. Their cocktail menu is awesome so this is a definite perk here.
After we were very well rested in the fluffy king size bed, we were up and ready for breakfast! We waltzed over to their “continental” style breakfast in their Rewards Member area which I cannot remember the actual name for. You have to swipe a key card to get in which I really remember because my sister’s wouldn’t work and it was hilarious.
If you are in a hurry or just want something super casual, they have some great options in here! There is oatmeal, pastries, cereal, yogurt, fruit, and my favorite thing of all time – COFFEE. They actually have a pretty legit coffee machine that makes lattes, cappuccinos, and delicious cold caffeinated beverages too.
Was this my favorite part of our little Ohio staycation? Yes, maybe it was.
See, I told you – my happy place. We decided to enjoy a sit down meal instead of a grab and go because I had a pretty busy day ahead of me. More on the rest of our staycation can be found here!
We popped over back over to the Two-One restaurant and ordered some pretty delicious items off their breakfast menu.
I opted for the johnnycakes which are basically cornmeal pancakes. They are served with a warm blueberry compote, fried corn, and a big serving of creme fraiche. I could have done without the creme fraiche but the blueberries on top were so yummy.
I had never had johnnycakes before and was worried they would be dry or too cornmealy but they were really good and just the perfect amount of fluffiness. You could add maple syrup for a little extra sweetness but I don’t think it’s necessary here.
The Beard opted for a little bit healthier meal with a quinoa bowl filled with nuts and dried fruit and healthiness. Obviously, we had to try the breakfast potatoes. The best Columbus breakfast potatoes are the ones from Northstar Cafe, don’t fight me on this. But, these were definitely top five.
We take our starches very seriously in the Lewis household.
We had such a relaxing overnight staycation at the Renaissance Hotel in Westerville! We ate some delicious food and lounged in a giant fluffy bed which is never a bad staycation idea. Make sure to check out our other posts on the rest of our staycation including dinner at the Two One and a shopping + foodie adventure throughout Westerville.
