Take Advantage of Preventative Care
Something that our mother instilled in the both of us, is the benefit of preventative care. It also happens that she works in healthcare so that makes sense. But, it’s extremely valuable! Here are a few ways you can make sure you’re taking care of yourself all year round and helping to prevent any major sickness coming your way.
- Get your flu shot and your Covid booster.
- Schedule your annual physical with your family doctor. Need a new one? Here’s a tool to find one through OhioHealth!
- For the ladies, make an appointment for your annual gyno appointment and if you are over 40, schedule a mammogram.
Annual well-visits and physicals are also covered by your insurance provider, so take advantage of it! Preventative medicine can catch high blood pressure to make a plan on how to really enjoy all those holiday treats or it can give you a clean bill of health so you can feel confident about visiting your loved ones this year.
Remember Those Healthy Tips from Childhood
How many times have we heard that washing your hands is the best way to stay healthy? It’s true! We really witnessed the impact that minor healthful tips can have on a community during Covid. Here are some tips we all learned as kiddos that still stand true today when wanting to stay healthy.
- Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds in warm water with soap. Sing a little rendition of Jingle Bells for a festive twist.
- Wear a mask if you do start to exhibit any ill symptoms like a cough, fever, etc.
- Keep tissues on hand for when you need to blow your nose.
- If you feel a cough or sneeze coming on, walk away from others (if possible), and cough/sneeze into your elbow to contain the germs. Wash your hands immediately, if possible.
- Keep hand sanitizer in your bag and even sanitizing wipes for when you are in public places without access to hand washing.
OhioHealth has additional resources on their website here to make sure everyone is staying in optimal health during the holiday season and year round.
