This winter sangria mocktail recipe is incredibly simple to make, absolutely delicious, and filled with fruit like pears, cranberries, oranges, and raspberries! It’s perfect for a small crowd or just for one.
Before we get into how delicious this winter sangria mocktail recipe is, let me thank Kroger for sponsoring it! We love to partner with our favorite Ohio based grocery store on awesome recipes like this one. You can check out a fun picnic post we did with them a few summers ago.
But, let’s talk about this sangria mocktail! As we are writing this, mocktails are on my mind for two big reasons.
- I am 31 weeks pregnant. While I’d love to peruse the wine aisles (or liquor store) at our local Kroger, that ain’t happening for another few months.
- New Year’s Eve is right around the corner! See point number 1 for why I probably won’t be staying up til midnight. Which is why I’m loving this fruity non-boozy drink that I can share at 6pm with my 4 year old.
Whether I’m pregnant or not, I love to have a delicious mocktail because it is really a work of art. It can be tricky to balance the right amount of sweetness and tartness without going overboard on either flavor. That’s why I love this mock sangria, it’s so perfect balanced with the fresh fruit and juice.
I’ve called this a winter sangria a few times and there is a reason why I’m saying that and not calling it a summer one. It all comes down to the fruit in season. Yet another reason I love Kroger, I can always count on them to have fresh, seasonal produce in stock and ready to enjoy.
Here are all the fruits that you’ll want to have on hand for this yummy wintery beverage.
- Fresh Cranberries. I think we all know that cranberries are totally a winter fruit – they scream Christmastime.
- Oranges. Citrus is freshest in the winter! I feel like this is a fun fact that people don’t usually know. Plain oranges are great in this but you should also just grab some satsumas when you are perusing Kroger in the winter because YUM.
- Fresh Raspberries. They technically aren’t in “season” in the winter but they are still delicious and add such yummy flavor to this sangria.
- Pears. Similar to raspberries, not necessarily a “winter” fruit but still a hearty fruit that is a great addition to this drink. I actually grew up with a pear tree in our front yard so I love to use this fruit when I’m able.
But, it’s not just fruit that is in this sangria mocktail! You need some liquid too, obviously.
- Cranberry Juice. I suggest a cranberry juice that isn’t *too* sweet. Luckily, our Kroger had about 10 options for cranberry juice. You can always check the app or online to see if there are any sales or coupons on the one you choose.
- Pineapple Juice. The fresh pineapple juice is SO good in this sangria recipe. It’s definitely a pronounced flavor and it’s delicious.
- Ginger Ale. You need a little bubbly inside a mocktail! You finish the drink off with the ginger ale after it’s been chilling in the fridge so it stays bubbly when you add it.
Once you have all your ingredients, you’re almost there! You just need a cute carafe or pitcher for your mocktail. Here are a few options, one from Michael’s that’s less than $10 or a fun one from Crate & Barrel for $25.
This winter sangria is obviously a delight and should absolutely be on your list. But, if you need some additional mocktail recipes, we (and Kroger) have you covered! Here are a few ideas straight from their website.
- Cotton Candy Mocktail. I need to make this immediately. We missed the Ohio State Fair this year and this seems like a wonderful alternative until next year.
- Grapefruit Sunrise Mocktail. This sounds so delightful and fresh! I love anything with sparkling water so I’m totally game.
- Sparkle & Clink Mocktail. I just really love the name of this drink. Well, it also sounds quite delicious, but it’s also adorable.
