You already know all the fun we had with the Ohio Poultry Association at our Ohio Eggs-travaganza… sorry, I can’t help it. After all that learning, cooking, and laughing with our hosts and fellow blogger friends, we did what anyone would – ate our way through German Village!
If you don’t live in Columbus, Ohio let me give you a little outline of German Village. It’s a bit south of downtown and is a super cute neighborhood that boasts restaurants, shops, a beautiful park, coffee shops, and brick sidewalks. I love wandering down here and was so excited for this progressive dinner!
First on our list was the amazing Valters at the Maennerchor, located at 976 S. High Street in German Village. Their chef and owner, Valter, is an awesome guy who makes pretty delicious German food like this giant pretzel. My favorite part of the pretzel appetizer is that it’s served with three dips, a homemade beer cheese, and two styles of mustard.
Also on their appetizer menu is The Rhein Trio, “a combination of our polish bratwurst, stout bratwurst and Weisswurst, served with fresh sauerkraut and house-made mustard.” They also have a great list of German beers at super reasonable prices! I’ve heard their brunch is killer and that’s next on my list to try.
This item was my FAVORITE. This plate was to share and I swear I could have eaten them all if that was socially acceptable. These sauerkraut balls are “hand rolled with our homemade corned beef, served with horseradish mustard.” They are like fried little balls of salty goodness and especially delicious with a swipe of that tart mustard.
After filling myself with all the carbs at Valters, we walked down the street and stopped at G. Michael’s Bistro & Bar. I’ve never been here but have always heard amazing things so I was super excited about this stop on the dinner train. We had their asparagus gratin which is Shiitake mushrooms, Gruyere cheese, English peas and Vidalia onions. Then, it true Ohio Eggs fashion, topped it with a poached egg!
Their menu looks so amazing and they have a pretty awesome happy hour, so I cannot wait to come back to this German Village staple.
Our last stop of the night was at another German Village hot spot, Lindey’s. Our dinner menu was actually off their brunch menu and it was FABULOUS. The Eggs Lindey’s is a petite filet topped with a poached egg on an english muffin with tasso ham and hollandaise sauce. It was remarkable.
We'd Love To Hear Your Thoughts on This Recipe!
