These peanut butter & jelly cupcakes are seriously perfection. They are like a little slice of childhood made into cupcake form.
This is either going to be a recipe you LOVE or hate. I’m totally team peanut butter and jelly everything – so I am obviously a big fan. I definitely lick the sides of the bowl of the cupcake batter and the peanut butter frosting.
There are so many ways to make peanut butter & jelly cupcakes!
You can make peanut butter cupcakes or jelly frosting or peanut butter filling or any other way you imagine. We opted for our vanilla cupcakes, filled the cupcakes with grape jelly and topped with a super amazing fluffy peanut butter frosting.
If you’ve never made filled cupcakes before, let me tell you how easy it is! Once you make sure your cupcakes are done, with the toothpick inserted for confirmation – you need to let them cool.
Then, all you do is cut a little portion out from the top – I use the flat part of my jumbo piping tip – and then set that piece of the cupcake to the side while you fill with jelly.
Are you team grape jelly or team strawberry jelly? We used grape jelly for these peanut butter & jelly cupcakes but it would be fun to do half with one and half with the other to please a crowd!
These items are must-haves to make perfect peanut butter & jelly cupcakes.
The best part about making the peanut butter frosting is that you might have extra and you can just eat it with a spoon. Oh, that’s just me?

Peanut Butter Frosting
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/2 cup butter softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 6 Tablespoons heavy whipping cream or whole milk
Instructions
Cupcakes
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Line cupcake pan with 12 liners, set aside.
- Whisk the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl and set aside.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt your butter. Remove from microwave and whisk in sugar until completely combined with no lumps.
- Add to a large bowl and combine with egg, sour cream or yogurt, milk, and vanilla until completely combined.
- Gently add in the flour and whisk until combined, careful not to over mix.
- Using a cookie scoop, add batter to cupcake liners evenly across all 12. Bake in the oven for 18-20 minutes, rotating the pan about halfway through cooking.
- Remove from oven and let cool completely.
- When ready, remove a piece of the cupcake by cutting a small hole in the top. Gently spoon in a bit of strawberry or grape jelly and then reseal with the piece of cupcake.
- Frost the cupcake with peanut butter frosting and enjoy!
Peanut Butter Frosting
- Beat peanut butter and butter in a large bowl with a hand mixer until creamy (or in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment).
- Mix in 1 cup of powdered sugar at a time, slowly, until mixture is crumbly. Add salt and vanilla and mix, then add 1 tablespoon of heavy whipping cream/whole milk until you reach desired consistency.

My weirdo kids like peanut butter and jelly, but will only eat them separately! They don’t dig the combo at all (where did I go wrong??). <3 I, on the other hand, I love it! These look scrumptious to me! π
