This post is in partnership with the Ohio State Fair. All thoughts, opinions, recipes, and pictures are our own.
It’s official, these will be award winning cookies. If you guys don’t know this fun fact about me, you’re about to find out. I LOVE the Ohio State Fair, like LOVE it. Last year I wrote about my top ten favorite things and you can find that right over here.
One of my FAVORITE parts of the Ohio State Fair is the cooking competitions. Yes, the fair has culinary competitions and yes, they are awesome. I’ve entered the live deviled egg contest two years in a row and last year, I entered the white cake contest and got first place!
Now, this brings me to the 2019 Ohio State Fair Culinary & Baking Arts Competitions!
First, let me tell you what kind of contests you can enter at the Ohio State Fair! There are seriously SO many options – something for all types of bakers and chef. Linked here is the full list of culinary competitions but here are a few of my favorites.
- Cookies and Pastries
- Cake Box Cookies
- Drop Cookies
- Oatmeal (hint hint)
- Quick Breads
- Muffins
- Scones
- Coffee Cake
- “Chopped” Cook-Off
- Deviled Egg Challenge
- Ohio Wines Grown Here
- Entree or Side Dish
- Dessert
Did I mention that there are prizes ($$$) associated with winning these Ohio State Fair Culinary Competitions?!
Now, let’s talk about how to enter a culinary contest at the Ohio State Fair. It’s pretty easy!
- You must enter by June 20, 2019
- There is a one-time $10 processing fee + a $1 entree fee per item
- You can (and should) enter multiple classes and may enter two entries per class meaning you can enter all the pie classes and enter two recipes per type of pie! If you want to enter two apple pie recipes, GO for it!
- ENTER HERE <— Follow that link right there to enter your desired competitions.
- You don’t need to have your recipe ready until the actual competition in July, so you have plenty of time to recipe test.
Okay, so now you’ve entered – what’s next? Get your booty in the kitchen and start planning your award winning recipes! In this super handy document, you’ll see the delivery date and judging date for your competition. Then, a few weeks before the competition, you’ll get a parking pass and details on how to print your recipe, when to drop off, etc. It’s honestly such a simple process – they’ve done this once or twice.
Which competition are you going to enter?!
Okay, so if I haven’t convinced you enough – let me try one last time. First of all, I will be there because I’m 100% entering these oatmeal coconut cookies (if that wasn’t obvious) and hoping to take home the blue ribbon andddd win that $20 prize money.
Second of all, these competitions are SO FUN, especially the live competitions. I not so secretly want to have my own Rachel Ray style TV show so I’m not afraid of being in front of a crowd. Everyone is so supportive and excited to be competing – it’s awesome.
One last time – follow this link right here to sign up for an Ohio State culinary competition and let us know which one you’re doing so we can join you!

Oh wait, that form confused me. Looks like eat division has different dates. Problem is the dates I am in town are weekdays and during work hours… ugh I will try to make it work!
