Homemade guacamole is the best! But, to make it even better – top with freshly chopped mango to make a mango guacamole to enjoy alone with chips or on tacos!
How to make the best guacamole?
Guacamole is so easy to make and 9/10, it’s way better than store bought. I will say that restaurant guacamole is usually pretty good if it’s made from scratch like Chipotle or probably your local Mexican spot.
The secret to good guacamole is perfectly ripe avocados. You want them to be soft but not squishy and dark dark green but not black. I find that you really just have to trial and error this to figure out how to determine when your avocado is ready.

What tools do I need for mango guacamole?
I’ve made guacamole many times in my life and I’ve done it with not so great kitchen tools. While, it’s possible, it is SO much easier to make your fresh guacamole with a few handy dandy kitchen tools.
- Sharp Knife. We use Shun knives mostly and they are great. You can purchase the 8” chef’s knife here on Amazon or head to William’s Sonoma or Sur La Table to grab one. You are 100% more likely to cut yourself on a dull knife, so please make sure you have a sharp, solid knife.
- Potato Masher. Some folks use a fork to mash their avocados, but I find that a potato masher works so much better. We have this OXO metal one.
- Big Mixing Bowl. I prefer a wide glass bowl for mixing guacamole because it’s easier to mash and mix all together in one bowl. We have these stackable ones!
- Rubber Spatula. You’ll need this to mix all together and combine your guacamole. I love these ones because they are all one piece so they don’t get moldy.
Why add mango to guacamole?
The answer is actually, why not? The fresh mango in guacamole adds an extra freshness and flavor that you will love. You could even add some tajin to it if you love fresh mango with tajin because spoiler, it’s the best.
If you aren’t the biggest mango fan, don’t you worry because you can add other fruits to your guacamole. Here are some delicious options.
- Strawberries.
- Pineapple… or grilled pineapple.
- Tomatoes.
- Pomegranate.
- Green Apples.
More taco recipes to enjoy with guacamole!
If I didn’t make it obvious, I love guacamole. It’s so great to enjoy on it’s own but it’s also wonderful on tacos or other Mexican cuisine. Here are a few favorites!
- Taco Pie. This is one of my FAVORITE family recipes. It’s crescent rolls topped with taco ingredients and would be delightful with a dollop of guacamole on top.
- Salmon Tacos. These blackened salmon tacos are so delicious and would be so delightful with some fresh mango guac on top.
- Easy Air Fried Fish Tacos. These tacos are topped with a simple slaw but adding mango guacamole would be a wonderful addition to the meal.
