I LOVE breakfast food. I (and Baby O) could eat eggs for every single meal of the day. But, busy life = not a lot of time for breakfast in the morning. While I’m not a huge “meal prepper,” these freezer friendly breakfast sandwiches are worth the 20 minutes it takes to make them and toss in the freezer for easy breakfast.
What do you need for freezer friendly breakfast sandwiches?
You only need a handful of items and ingredients to make the most perfect copycat McMuffins. Let’s start with the ingredients you’ll need.
- English Muffins. I find that these are the best holders for breakfast sandwiches because they stay sturdy with the egg, cheese, and turkey bacon. Plus, they are a little healthier than biscuits or bagels.
- Eggs. I opted for scrambled eggs because it’s easier to batch cook them and to smoosh inside the English Muffin. You could definitely make over hard eggs too – I would definitely make sure the egg is HARD and not runny though.
- Turkey Bacon. I don’t eat more, so I chose a maple turkey bacon for these sandwiches. You can opt for no meat or swap with pork bacon, any type of sausage or even a little fried chicken piece.
- Cheese. I chose cheddar cheese because it’s a classic option. But, you could absolutely choose ANY type of cheese here.
You will also need a few prep and cooking items to make these tasty little sandwiches.
- Cutting Board/Big Plates. These are for putting your sandwiches together, once everything is cooked. Boos Blocks are my FAVORITE and we need a new big one because we just have this little guy.
- Frying Pan. You can use the same pan to cook your eggs and your protein — not at the same time though. We have this non-stick skillet and it’s great.
- Plastic Baggies. I found that putting the breakfast sandwiches in their own labeled plastic baggie works great. If you want to opt for something a little more environmentally friendly, you could use foil or even reusable baggies but I haven’t tried either of those options.
How do you make turkey bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwiches?
Form an assembly line! But, seriously – these homemade breakfast sandwiches are SO easy to make. Just follow these steps and you’ll have them finishing in about 20 minutes.
- Slice your English Muffins first and then set aside.
- Grab 6 slices of cheddar cheese and set aside with your muffins.
- Make your scrambled eggs. I won’t lie, I am AWESOME at making scrambled eggs. I watched this video of Gordon Ramsey making eggs and use his technique with a few alterations, like not using creme fraiche because I’m not that fancy. Set them aside on a large plate.
- Prepare your turkey bacon. You can use the same skillet as the eggs, just give it a quick rinse.
- Then, it’s time for your breakfast sandwich assembly line! Add a scoop of eggs to the bottom muffin. Then, layer on turkey bacon (cut in half to fit) and add a slice of cheddar cheese before putting the English Muffin top on all the breakfast goodness.
- Then, you’ll store then one by one in a labeled plastic baggie.
How do you store them?
I thought about a few different options for storing these freezer friendly breakfast sandwiches. I considered parchment paper, foil, and plastic wrap. But, I opted for the easiest option – labeled plastic baggies.
While it’s not the most environmentally friendly option – it’s definitely the simplest. Grab a sharpie and label what is in the bag and how to prepare it (see below) then toss in the freezer!
This recipe makes 6 egg sandwiches and honestly, they were gone in less than a week! I’m sure they would be fine in your freezer for a few months but I doubt they will last that long. Just make sure you have solid plastic baggies that handle the freezer well. We use Ziploc for this reason.
How do you reheat freezer breakfast sandwiches?
Again, I opted for the easiest option for reheating these breakfast sandwiches. Because, hello us busy parents need CONVENIENCE.
My recommendation is to microwave them (NOT with the plastic baggie!) for 1 minute 45 seconds. They cheese will get very melty so make sure you do this on a plate. If you do it on a paper towel, it will stick to the paper towel and you’ll lose some of the cheesy goodness.
While you could probably put these in the oven too – it seemed like a little too much work and time consuming. Although your muffin would get a little toasty, as opposed to soft, if that’s move your thing.
Are they cheaper than drive-thru?
I’m always very curious on if things are cheaper to make at home because sometimes they are and sometimes they aren’t! But, in my opinion, it’s usually better to make them at home because you are totally controlling what goes into your meal.
Here is a cost comparison of my homemade breakfast sandwiches vs. some of the top fast food breakfast sandwiches.
**note that these are all costs in Columbus, Ohio and may be different where you live.

- Mini Peach Crumb Muffins. Ah, these are addicting. I seriously ate like half the batch in one sitting.
Freezer Friendly Breakfast Sandwiches
Ingredients
- 6 English Muffins
- 6 eggs
- 6 slices cheddar cheese
- 6 sliced turkey bacon
- salt + pepper
- 1/4 cup whole milk
Instructions
- Slice your English Muffins and set aside on a cutting board or baking sheet. Set your slices of cheese on same board/sheet. Grab 6 plastic baggies and label them with the name of your sandwich and how to warm up to cook from the freezer. Also set on sheet/board.
- Prepare your scrambled eggs by breaking the 6 eggs into a large bowl. Add milk and whisk until combined.
- Pour into a warm skillet and cook scrambled eggs over medium-low heat, using a rubber spatula to scrape the eggs until fully scrambled.
- Remove eggs from pan and place on a large plate. Season with salt and pepper.
- Clean skillet then cook turkey bacon in it over medium heat until cooked to your preference. Remove when cooked and place on same plate with eggs.
- Start your breakfast sandwich assembly line! Scoop scrambled eggs onto the bottom half of the English Muffin. Then top with a piece of turkey bacon cut in half to fit on muffin. Finish with a slice of cheese and then place the English Muffin top on the cheese. Gently place the sandwich in a labeled plastic baggie.
- Repeat the above step until all 6 sandwiches are finished. Gently place in your freezer, laying flat so the ingredients all stay together in sandwich form.
- Whenever you want to make one for breakfast, simply remove from freezer and then from the plastic baggie. Place on a microwave safe plate (not a napkin/paper towel) and cook for 1 minute, 45 seconds. Everything will be cooked, warm, but not tough.
- Enjoy!
