If you want to make something perfect for Valentine’s Day, but don’t want to spend hours in the kitchen, these chocolate dipped Oreo’s are perfect!
How to make chocolate dipped Oreos.
It’s SUPER easy to make chocolate dipped Oreos. But, there are a few steps you need to do to make sure it’s a simple process.
If you watch our videos on Instagram, then you know I ALWAYS tell you to set up your “mise en place” which means “putting in place” in French. This recipe is no different.
You’ll want to set up your dipping station, so you don’t make a mess. This is especially important if you are dipping with a 3 year old like I was when I made these festive cookies.
I use these super handy Wilton Disposable Sheets because they act like parchment paper and are super easy to clean up.
Then, you set a plate out for your oreos, bowls with your melted chocolate, and a bowl of sprinkles! See? So easy!
The best kind of chocolate for dipping.
Okay, so this is a pretty important part of the dipping process … the chocolate! There are a few different options you can technically use for dipping your Oreos, but I do have a personal favorite.
- Chocolate Melting Wafers. This is my #1 option for dipping Oreos. There are loads of brands and varieties of chocolate for melting wafers. I personally love the Ghirardelli brand which come with melting instructions on the package. They have dark, white, and milk chocolate options.
- Chocolate Bars. I also really like this as an option but it will require making a double boiler, which is pretty easy. Again, so many options and varieties of chocolate for bars. Whole Foods Market has a beautiful selection of baking chocolate bars.
Do not use chocolate chips to melt for dipping, it won’t work. They hold their shape too well which is great for chocolate chip cookies but not for dipping Oreos.
Here is a really great article that lists the difference between chocolate wafers, bars, and chips!
How to decorate Oreos for Valentine’s Day.
Okay, so it’s pretty easy to decorate these Oreos for Valentine’s Day. Here are the our favorite ways to dip these festive cookies.
- Half Dip the Oreo. Just dip half of the Oreo cookie in the chocolate. I personally think it’s cuter and you get more cookie than total chocolate flavor.
- Multiple Chocolates. Choose at least 2 different chocolates for dipping. We opted for white and dark chocolate this time. But, you could even add a few drops of food coloring to the white chocolate to make a pink dipping chocolate!
- Cute Sprinkles. This is obvious. You need festive sprinkles! We used these Valentine’s Day ones from Wilton but anything pink, white, and red would suffice.
- Festive Bags. If you don’t want to eat a whole box of chocolate covered Oreos, you can put 2-3 in a plastic treat bag to give to your friends, family, or your special Valentine. Seal it with a heart sticker for extra adorableness.
While I’m recommending these for Valentine’s Day, you could totally decorate for other holidays too! I personally would love to see a St. Patty’s Day dipped Oreo.
Other cute ideas for Valentine’s Day.
I love Valentine’s Day for the sole reason that I can make cute little treats like these chocolate dipped Oreos. Here are a few of our other favorite festive treats.
- Yogurt Covered Pretzels. These are SO simple to make and super cute with pink and white sprinkles.
- Unicorn Poop Snack Mix. You can leave out the unicorn sprinkles and swap for hearts instead to make it a little more festive.

These look great! I especially love the Valentine’s Day sprinkles. I would suggest that anyone who wishes to add a bit of color to their chocolate, use gel, powder, or paste food coloring. The regular drops of food coloring contain water and can cause the chocolate to seize.
