Okay, so if you didn’t know – I’m not afraid of a stage. I was casually the lead in my sixth grade play and I’m pretty sure I bring that fact up about twice a week. Since we started The Beard and The Baker in 2015, I’ve had a handful of opportunities to do “tv magic” cooking segments.
But, this time ADA Mideast asked me to do a full live cooking demo from start to finish! I immediately said yes.
This is where the homemade fluffy biscuits come into action. Since the ADA (American Dairy Association) Mideast is all about dairy – I knew I had to make something full of deliciousness. These fluffy biscuits have milk and butter in them but then I took it a step further.
Homemade fluffy biscuits are made ten times better with homemade whipped butters.
I mean, look at those layers. These easy fluffy biscuits have just six ingredients and you’ll seriously be hooked once you make them just once.
I didn’t get a ton of pictures of the final products because I was focused on making sure I didn’t mess up my cooking demo. Don’t worry, it all went wonderfully. I had to prepare 50 samples for folks watching the demo in the Ohio Proud kitchen at the Ohio State Fair which I made the night before.
Don’t you make 25 biscuits at 9pm at night on a Thursday? Totally normal.
I whipped up (pun intended) two different whipped butters, both on the sweet side. A vanilla bean butter and a cinnamon sugar butter – both delicious. You could also easily make a savory butter with fresh herbs or even shredded cheese!
I feel so lucky to be able to do things we love like cook and write about it and then even show it off to the public! But, I love even more that I have a ridiculously supportive family who shows up for things like this. My aunt came from out of town, my dad and stepmom were there, my sister brought her TRIPLETS, and of course The Beard and Baby O came along.
Family support = everything.

- 1 Tablespoon baking powder
- 4 teaspoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 6 Tablespoons butter frozen
- 3/4 cup whole milk cold
Vanilla Bean Whipped Butter
- 1/2 cup butter softened
- 2 Tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 Tablespoon vanilla bean paste
Cinnamon Sugar Whipped Butter
- 1/2 cup butter softened
- 2 Tablespoons heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 Tablespoon granulated sugar
Instructions
Homemade Fluffy Biscuits
- Preheat oven to 400 degree F. Line a cookie sheet with silicone sheet or parchment paper. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt with whisk until totally combined.
- Remove butter from freezer/fridge and grate using a box grater then add to dry mix. Using hands, gently combine until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour in cold milk and combine with a wooden spoon, careful not to over-mix.
- Pour scraggly dough mix onto floured counter. Fold gently until combined and then pat into a rectangle. Then, fold over itself 3-4 times, turning each time, to create all those good layers.
- Place into a final rectangle and using a biscuit cutter, cut into six biscuits. With extra dough, you can make mini biscuits.
- Drop onto prepared baking sheet and place in oven for 15-17 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from oven, top with a whipped butter and enjoy!
Whipped Butters
- – Add all ingredients to a large bowl. Using a hand mixer, mix until completely combined, about 2-4 minutes. Alternately, you can use a stand mixer. Serve immediately or store in fridge for up to a week.
