I’m starting to love all these themed blogger recipe events! We’ve had Burger Month, Cookout Week, and now it’s Dessert Week! This time, we are working with over 20 other bloggers to whip up some amazing dessert’s throughout the week. Scroll all the way to the bottom for a really awesome giveaway!
We’ve already shared one recipe this week (strawberry cake donuts) and next up are these deliciously wonderful grocery store style iced oatmeal cookies!
If you don’t know what I mean about “grocery stores” iced oatmeal cookies, I literally mean the sh*tty oatmeal cookies that are like $1 at Walmart, Kroger, or other grocery stores. They are terrible and amazing, all at the same time. This recipe is a bit classier with homemade softer oatmeal cookies with a simple icing style glaze!
DISCLAIMER: THESE POSTS AND RECIPES ARE PART OF THE WEEK-LONG EVENT, #SUMMERDESSERTWEEK BUT ALL OPINIONS ARE 100% MINE! WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK OUR AMAZING SPONSORS: DIXIE CRYSTALS, ADAM’S EXTRACT, RED STAR YEAST, SUSQUEHANNA GLASS CO. AND LODGE CAST IRON! THESE WONDERFUL SPONSORS PROVIDED THE PRIZE PACKS FOR OUR GIVEAWAYS AND ALSO SENT SAMPLES AND PRODUCTS TO THE #SUMMERDESSERTWEEK BLOGGERS TO USE IN THEIR RECIPES.
As part of Dessert Week, we get some really really awesome goodies from some of our baking friends. We used two of those products in this recipe and I have to share how great they are with you and just to remind you that we are giving you our honest opinions.
“Since 1917, Dixie Crystals® has been the South’s choice for high-quality sugar and sweeteners. Our pure cane sugar products are non-GMO and provide consistently delicious results.” The fine folks at Dixie Crystals® gave us 40 POUNDS of sugar. I repeat 40 POUNDS. Sorry, UPS guy.
I say that like I haven’t already used several pounds of the sugar already. They also gave us a new sil-pat sheet which is great because Baby O has decided mine is a coloring sheet. Toddlers, oy.
These are the aforementioned sil-pat sheets that are now covered in crayons. Thank goodness for Dixie Crystals®. If you don’t have one of these yet, order one ASAP. I use mine constantly! You don’t have to worry about having parchment paper and it makes cleanup a breeze. Plus, your cookies don’t stick. It’s really a win-win all around.
Pro tip when making these old-fashioned iced oatmeal cookies: use the bottom of a glass to smoosh them down a bit. You can dip your glass in sugar too so there is a little sugary crust on top of the cookie but it’s not totally necessary. If you want to get crazy, you can do a little topping of brown sugar but again, not necessary because you’ll be topping them with some yummy icing.
“Mom, are the cookies done yet?” – what I imagine Baby O is saying every time I get out the Kitchen Aid Mixer.
Woo, time for the icing! So, I didn’t totally make these like the crunchy iced oatmeal cookies you might be used to because I wanted the icing to have just a little more coverage. I found this awesome recipe though that looks to have a pretty spot on interpretation!
Now is the perfect time to tell you about our other awesome sponsor for this recipe, Adam’s Extract. Not gonna lie, I loved this product the second I opened it because it is in cute glass bottles. It’s honestly the little things that impress me.
Adam’s Extract has been around since 1888 which is just bonkers and amazing to me. They have a pretty cool story that you can (and should) read here. We used their vanilla extra for this glaze but are using their cherry extract for another recipe this week!
Obviously, I’m very excited about icing these cookies. I actually made them for Father’s Day and finished icing them at my dad’s house. They have a huge kitchen and beautiful lighting in their house compared to our apartment that has one window in the living room.
I’m pretty sure the number one reason I want to buy a house is to have a kitchen with flawless lighting. I think that’s reasonable. For now, I’ll settle for stealing my family’s homes. I think they are okay with it because I usually bring snacks.
I’m not going to lie, these iced oatmeal cookies are addicting – just like their grocery store counterparts. The worst part of working from home is that I don’t really have a ton of people to bring my baked goods to so I usually end up eating more than my fair share. Whoopsie. #FoodBloggerDiet
Luckily, my dad took these into work and shared with his coworkers and they were a hit! Who will you share your cookies with this summer? Don’t forget to enter our giveaway below for #DessertWeek!
