This Cobb Salad is so simple to make and features some of my favorite ingredients like avocado and hard boiled eggs. Serve it with a delicious ranch dressing!
Cobb salads are my favorite salads. Okay, caesar salads are a close second. They are made of with my favorite ingredients, although I did take some creative liberty on the addition of avocado. Pretty sure you aren’t going to be mad about that though.
What exactly is a Cobb salad?
By definition: “a tossed salad made typically with chopped chicken or turkey, tomatoes, bacon, hard-boiled eggs, blue cheese, and lettuce and dressed with a vinaigrette.”
But, my personal definition is chopped romaine lettuce with cheese, chopped hard boiled eggs, a chopped protein and 1-2 chopped veggies. Then, put it all in pretty lines and enjoy.
Okay, well, actually keep reading but that’s the gist of a delicious Cobb salad recipe.
Ingredients for a Cobb salad.
Okay, so I personally think there are no wrong ways to make this salad. But, the must have’s are: lettuce (duh), hard boiled eggs, cheese, veggies, and protein.
Our delicious recipe ingredients:
- Romaine Lettuce. My favorite salad lettuce. You could use iceberg or make a healthy Cobb salad with kale or spinach.
- Tomatoes. I actually don’t love tomatoes but they are a necessity on a Cobb salad.
- Shredded Mozzarella Cheese. The typical cheese is actually bleu cheese, but I love mozzarella or even cheddar.
- Turkey Bacon. I don’t eat pork, so opted for turkey bacon! You could use chicken, steak, or regular bacon.
- Hard Boiled Eggs. I will make up any excuse to eat more hard boiled eggs.
- Avocados. A traditional Cobb salad doesn’t have avocado but I feel like it’s necessary. It adds a delicious creaminess.
You could opt out of meat protein to make a vegetarian Cobb salad too.
Is Cobb salad healthy?
Okay, so healthy is a relative term. But, if you are on the keto diet – our recipe is keto friendly! It’s high fat and high protein, so woo hoo for delicious and pretty healthy.
Now for the Cobb salad dressing, it’s totally healthy! This ranch dressing is made with Kefir so it’s not only delicious but full of probiotics too.
What is Kefir?
If you are anything like me, you might not be super familiar with the drinkable cultured milk. According to Lifeway, itβs βa tart and tangy cultured milk smoothieβ that has loads of health benefits.
We have another delicious recipe using Kefir, find it right here.
Best dressing for Cobb salad.
Obviously, our suggestion for the best salad dressing is ranch! Our Kefir ranch dressing is full of herbs and the perfect consistency for drizzling over the salad.
Here are a few other salad dressing recipes if you want to mix it up.
- Vinagrette. This simple vinaigrette would also be so perfect mixed with your Cobb salad ingredients.
- Bleu Cheese Dressing. If you’re missing the bleu cheese in this salad, add some bleu cheese dressing!
Here are some of our other favorite salad recipes.
- Southwestern Salad + Avocado Crema. This fun salad is topped with crispy fish sticks and a homemade avocado crema that’s addicting.
- Semi-Homemade Fried Chicken Salad. This is a copycat salad from Max & Erma’s and is oh so marvelous.
- Simple Greek Salad. The olives in this Greek salad are briny perfection. It can be a great entree or side dish.
