Breakfast sandwiches are a work of art. These 6 homemade recipes provide you with great options for your morning routine.
This post should maybe just be called “Hannah’s Favorite Things Ever.” I love breakfast sandwiches. I actually think that if (when!) we write a cookbook, I might have an entire section dedicated to breakfast sandwiches.
How to make a perfect breakfast sandwich.
But, let’s start this thing off with the basics. You’ll need two pieces of some type of yummy carb slathered with your favorite type of condiment.
In between, you MUST have a fried egg, something fresh and crunchy and then a little extra protein. Optional additions are cheese, hot sauce and whatever else you have lingering in your fridge/freezer (like frozen waffles).
I think I love breakfast sandwiches because if you follow the very basic outline from above, you really can’t go wrong. Plus, every sandwich has a little story behind it.
Our first breakfast sandwich recipe includes the following ingredients. It’s probably our most simple of the six recipes.
- Frozen Waffles.
- 2 Fried Eggs.
- Romaine Lettuce.
- White Onion.
Our second breakfast sandwich recipe.
Joel made some Jarlsberg and thyme biscuits and then some homemade chicken sausage patties. We had just gotten our Kitchen Aid meat grinder so he was on a homemade sausage kick, that really has never ended.
The exact ingredients for this delightful ingredients include the following.
- Homemade Savory Biscuits.
- Homemade Chicken Sausage.
- Fried Egg.
- Shredded Jarlsberg Cheese.
- Romaine Lettuce.
- Hot Sauce.
It’s obviously paired with some sort of caffeinated beverage in a coffee mug that we got in the middle of the wilderness in Gatlinburg on a mini vacation.
I was so excited about this cute little purchase, that I was running back to the car and my phone fell out of my pocket and immediately shattered on day one of vacation. Cool.
Sweet and savory breakfast sandwich recipe.
Okay, so go with me on this one. Yes, that’s a blueberry bagel. Right after we had our little Baby O, we weren’t really up for leaving the house with a 3 day old.
Cue Amazon Prime Now (get 30 days free here!). It had JUST launched in Columbus and was a godsend who brought us bagels, turkey bacon, eggs, potatoes, and bananas.
Probably the best breakfast sandwich of all times because of the (lack of sleep) sweet bagel paired with the smokey turkey bacon. Proof that a little flavor can go a long way with some ingenuity.
The exact ingredients for this sweet and savory breakfast sandwich include the following.
- Blueberry Bagel.
- Turkey Bacon.
- Fried Egg.
- White Cheddar Cheese.
If you follow us on Instagram, you know my love for Fox in the Snow. They do have a flawless egg breakfast sandwich but that wasn’t my inspiration for this homemade one. They make a delicious cheddar chive scone that I’m pretty sure contains at least one stick of butter.
We attempted to recreate those delicious carbs and while they were delicious, they lacked the appropriate height for a scone. Here are all the ingredients we used for this delicious breakfast sandwich recipe.
- Homemade Cheddar Chive Scones.
- Romaine Lettuce.
- Homemade Chicken Sausage.
- Cheddar Cheese.
Condiments for breakfast sandwiches.
When it comes to condiments, I love mayonnaise. I feel like it gets a bad rap. It’s just eggs, vinegar, lemon juice, and salt. But, somehow it is seen as this horrifying substance of goop.
Whatever, more for me. In addition, I love love love a good spicy hot sauce. One of The Beard’s coworkers visited Mexico and brought back this amazingly smooth, spicy and addicting hot sauce.
The most upsetting part of this is that I can’t find it ANYWHERE online and we are almost out of it. Sigh. At least it makes this breakfast sandwich one of the best.
Here are the ingredients for our fifth breakfast sandwich.
- Everything Bagel.
- Mayo.
- Hot Sauce.
- Fried Egg.
- Cheddar Cheese.
- Romaine Lettuce.
Okay, so this one might be cheating. But, sometimes you need a little assistance for a flawless breakfast sandwich. We borrowed an egg soufflé from the ever fabulous Sassafras Bakery but the rest is our concoction.
Baby O and I woke up on New Year’s Day to freshly brewed coffee and biscuits in the oven. After we got our giant mug of coffee, we topped this breakfast sandwich off with delicious ingredients.
- Homemade Biscuits.
- Egg Souffle.
- Spring MIx.
- Red Onions.
- Peppadews.
- White Cheddar.
There you have it! Some of our (my) favorite homemade breakfast sandwiches. What is your favorite concoction? Be sure to tell us in the comments.
